Our mission is to help restore individual dignity and self-worth by reflecting God’s unconditional love and grace to homeless men, women, and children in Deschutes County.
We accomplish our mission by providing no-cost showers, hygiene products, and new or gently used underwear.
The Community Shower Truck, Inc. was founded in 2011. During the first few years, the truck was operated by ICON City, an organization that helped young teens living on the streets.
In 2015, ICON City sold the truck to Foundry Church, a local church in Bend, Oregon. They operated the truck for over a year, expanding its services to include men, women, and children.
In 2017, a group of shower truck volunteers and supporters worked to form the current non-profit and over the past year, we have worked to expand our services.
In the Fall of 2018 a new truck was purchased that allowed us to expand our shower capacity and service quality. In late 2018 and the Spring of 2019, we completed all the necessary renovation work to accommodate four showers, two for men, and two for women.
Our services are currently offered in Bend and Redmond, Oregon. However, this doesn’t mean that the care we provide doesn’t extend beyond these two cities. Our clients include transients passing through the community, members of the many homeless camps throughout the Tri-county region, and those finding themselves in transition as they look for employment and housing.
The majority of our clients are single homeless men. However, over the past year, more women and families are taking advantage of our services.
Some of our clients have taken up residence in their cars, unable to find affordable housing. They are employed but because of their living conditions, do not have access to shower facilities.
Currently, we are serving between fifty to sixty clients each week. These numbers climb to up to 100 clients per week during the Spring and Summer months.
